Big Five Family Safari

South Africa is well known for its renowned Kruger National Park, considered one of the best game viewing experiences in Africa. It is safe, fun and rewarding to travel with children in Africa. Africa is a treasure chest of adventure and learning for the whole family. African Portfolio has carefully selected destinations, hotels and safari lodges which offer a family journey of discovery that will be remembered for a life-time. The Big Five Family Safari offers an intensive safari experience in two private game reserves adjacent to Kruger. The tour combines deluxe lodge accommodation with outstanding wildlife viewing providing a wonderful variety of experiences. Set in the magnificent Malelane Mountains, Bongani Mountain Lodge is an unforgettable African cultural and wildlife adventure. San (Bushmen) tribes of bygone days painted hundreds of rock-art friezes throughout the area, and you are able to explore one of the world’s richest sources of rock art during your stay here. On safari you participate in early morning as well as late afternoon game drives, in open land rovers or guided wilderness walks, accompanied by professional guides. Characteristic species of this Game Reserve include elephant, lion, cheetah, white rhino, giraffe, klipspringer and kudu. Bongani promises to be a unique experience. You then transfer by charter flight to Ngala Main lodge consisting of 20 thatched cottages nestled under a canopy of mopane and marula trees, often crested with troops of chattering monkeys. The lodge offers a thatched lounge and dining room with an open fireplace, an outdoor boma, swimming pool and sundeck overlooking an attractive waterhole for relaxing during the day. At dawn and dusk, skilled rangers and trackers take you on a journey of discovery and excitement, tailoring their expedition to your specific interests. A great diversity of large and spectacular wildlife can be seen: lion, leopard, cheetah, white rhino and large herds of elephant and buffalo are prolific, affording unsurpassed viewing and photographic opportunities. Activities focus on game drives in open vehicles, which traverse Ngala’s private concession of some 15000 hectares, in search of wildlife. For those wanting closer contact with this magnificent African wilderness, armed rangers can lead you on interactive bush walks which allow fascinating encounters with the trees, animal tracks and an intriguing host of beetles, butterflies and other insects.
