Borana

Borana is situated in the north in one of the meandering valleys of the Laikipia Plateau in the foothills of Mount Kenya. The six individual cedar and stone thatched cottages are very spacious, each with a private verandah and en suite bath and shower facilities. The lodge blends in with the surroundings as it has been built with rustic wood furnishings and decorated with Africa fabrics creating a natural look and feel. There is a central eating and sitting area: comfy leather sofas surround a huge fireplace with picture windows looking onto the valley below. A massive rosewood table in the dining room is where meals are served by friendly and attentive staff. Borana is self sufficient in home grown vegetables and dairy products. The lodge offers day and night game drives, walking safaris, trout fishing and a refreshing swimming pool. Borana lodge overlooks a dam which fills with the floodwater flowing off the surrounding hills. It is the local watering hole for all the wildlife in the area so there is constant activity for the guests to watch. There is also a game blind built right on the edge of the dam so that visitors may go down and see the activity at close range: elephants swimming is a favourite. There is an abundance of game in the area including lion, leopard, cheetah, buffalo, giraffe, elephant, hyena, rhino and a large variety of antelope. The lodge has also raised two orphaned bush pigs that wander freely around the grounds.
