From the deck, marsh grasses fill the central view. In the distance, all sorts of trees make a lacy edge to the bottom of the pale new sky, which blues upwards with wispy clouds lightly floating atop the blue. In the foreground, a few graceful lance-like feathery fronds give a base to the view, reaching up across the scene even to the sky, appearing higher than the distant trees. Unseen birds call gently, insects buzz. People start arriving quietly in the African morning. It is 6am, all is aglow, and we are wildly anticipating our first game drive. Little did we know that one of our best memories would be breakfast! Our oatmeal breakfast has changed forever, raised to a new level by double cream and The Famous Grouse! But even that could not eclipse the kaleidoscopic memories of dazzles of zebras, journeys of giraffes, rosters of red lechwe, rafts of hippos and flashings of African fish eagles or leopard… tortoises, frogs and tracks! |
