Chikoko Trails Camps

The small and exclusive bush camps in South Luangwa, Chikoko Tree Camp and Crocodile River Camp, form Chikoko Walking Trails. They are only accessible on foot and offer a unique bush experience. These are ideal for those that are keen to get away from the restrictions and inactivity of game drives. The experience of being on foot in these isolated and natural surroundings cannot be beaten. Each camp offers accommodation for a maximum of 6 people with en-suite facilities. Full support is provided with an experienced walking guide, armed scout and chef as well as general camp staff. Chikoko Tree Camp is situated 8km upstream of Tafika. As the name suggests the 3 twin chalets are raised above the ground, within the tree canopy. This enhances the view of the acacia grove in front of camp where a constant array of wildlife activity unfolds throughout the day. Crocodile River Camp has 3 chalets imaginatively constructed of thatch and natural materials–delightfully simple, perfectly comfortable. It rests beneath a grove of magnificent ebony trees, overlooking a dambo and the action of a day in the wild. You can choose to stay at either or both camps and also combine them with a stay at Tafika. Transfers are either by road, which takes about two hours from Mfuwe airport or it is a short flight from Mfuwe to the local airstrip, Lukusi. There is a short canoe ride to cross the Luangwa River and then you proceed on foot to your chosen camp.
