The 12 en-suite tents are nestled in the cooling shade of jackalberry and waterberry trees, and each includes an expansive deck with views of the Zambezi River flowing below, the perfect vantage point from which to gaze out at the hippos and elephants that frequent this area. Inside, the decor is fashionable, comfortable and uncluttered, featuring climate control and delightful appointments that will almost make you forget that you are in a rugged riverside locale. Walking along the network of raised platforms to the main area, you will find, along with striking views of the Zambezi, an inviting bar, lounge and dining area, as well as a sundeck that is perfect for enjoying a leisurely meal. Dips in the infinity pool are as refreshing as the activities on offer are exciting: a tour of the Victoria Falls on the Zambian side, fishing excursions, guided nature walks and game drives within Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park (where you can spy species such as buffalo, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and impala). Those looking for relaxation will enjoy sunset cruises, while travelers on the hunt for adventure might wish to try micro-lighting, canoeing, jet boating or a helicopter flight with a view of the Falls.
Evoking a long-ago era of African exploration, Linyanti Discoverer Camp has five spacious, hexagonal tents which create an alluring, elegant atmosphere in the heart of an enchanting wilderness. This is the romantic ideal of safari lore: flowing linen of pure cottons, brass bucket showers, water jugs and hand basins. There is an antique feel here, while luxury comforts and amenities abound. Expert guides and camp staff provide superb, personalized service: expert, extroverted guides, bush laundry service, chefs preparing three-course meals over a campfire, eaten by the light of the stars and paraffin hurricane lanterns. Set under massive African ebony and knobthorn acacia trees, and overlooking panoramic vistas of the Linyanti Swamps, this camp is an ideal place from which to launch your exploration of the northern sector of the Linyanti Concession. Snake through a range of habitats on game drives, from scrub and forest to riverbanks, where you can watch the diverse denizens of the plains gather to quench their thirst. Settle into the safari life here, enjoying a picnic lunch after a morning game drive at a secluded site, followed by a late afternoon canoe trip. In addition to the broad range plains game, predators and riverine species such as crocodiles and hippos, the seldom-seen sitatunga antelope can also be spotted in the waterways in this area.
The 6 000 hectare Santawani Concession, in the southeast corner of the Okavango Delta is diverse and game rich. Most of the concession comprises mixed woodland habitat and open grasslands that are transformed into floodplains in years of plentiful water. Right outside the Moremi Game Reserve, where game roams along the sweeping Jao flats, is an exclusive safari paradise called Jacana Camp. Set on a secluded island amid papyrus-fringed channels, Jacana is truly a water-oriented safari camp: mokoro (traditional canoe) and walking safaris offer unique immersion into serene wilderness, and day and night game drives bring out the personalities of the landscape (depending on water levels). Sitatunga antelope, red lechwe, hippos and crocodiles are regularly sighted in this watery wilderness, not to mention lechwe, tsessebe, elephant, wildebeest, zebra, lions, cheetah and leopard. This region is also a favorite of birders, as it features a vast range of species including Wattled Canes, Pels Fishing Owls, both species of jacanas as well as other seldom sighted species such as rails, crakes and moorhens. Of course, the wildlife is only part of the story. Jacana Camp is a delightfully luxurious and intimate escape. By day you can cool off in the plunge pool, and by night sip cocktails in the cozy pub. The landscape is the star of the show here: whether in the comfort of one of the five en suite, meru-style tents, amid the sycamore figs and wild date palms in the outdoor dining space, or sitting around the fire under the stars, you are constantly reminded of the magic of this pristine place.
