This tour follows in the footsteps of Hemingway to some of the least well traveled, most dramatic safari regions in the country. From Nairobi you charter to Kilalinda, located in south eastern Kenya, on the border of Tsavo East National Park, situated on the banks of the Athi River. Here you can relax by the crystal pool, stroll the Athi's beautiful banks, or tour the game rich wilds of Tsavo. And for incurable romantics, there are the sunrise breakfasts and sundowners on a panoramic platform nestled high in the boughs of a giant baobab tree. You then travel a couple of hours by road to Campi ya Kanzi, “camp of the hidden treasure”, a community project with the local Masai on a ranch of 400 square miles. The altitude of the ranch ranges from 3,000 to 6,900 feet, so the terrain includes several different eco-systems - from the grasslands of the savannah to the green river woodlands to cool mountain forests. The volcanic Chyulu Hills flank the property. Guests can view game on foot with an experienced local Masai guide, or in four wheel drive vehicles. Enjoy this area of outstanding natural beauty so loved by Hemingway. You continue by road on a very pleasant game drive through a unique wilderness area in the Chyulu Hills en route to Ol Donyo Wuas. This beautiful lodge lies in a Masai group ranch comprising 300,000 acres with stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro. Activities on offer include both day and night game drives in the surrounding private wilderness as well as in the famous Amboseli National Park. All the big five are resident on the Ranch although rhino are hard to see as they live in very dense cover. Other wildlife includes ostrich, oryx, eland, gerenuk, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, Thompson's and Grant's gazelle, reed buck, cheetah, lion, leopard, hyena, jackal and bat-eared fox. There are also horses available for morning, evening or all day rides. The country around Ol Donyo Wuas is ideal for walking - open plains, Acacia woodland and the hills and we encourage you to visit the local Masai village. This tour is a most unique and rewarding safari experience and highly recommended for repeat travelers or those looking for something off the beaten path.
