The private marquee tents are set in the shade of large Oleadendra and Walburgia trees that cover the site, a tranquil setting that borders one of the finest Game Reserves in the world. The Camp has eight en-suite luxury tents, each furnished in rich warm textures mixed with natural hard woods. They feature comfortable, colonial style furnishing with a little eastern "spice". They are constructed of canvas and supported by hardwood poles with the interior walls and ceilings made from Kenyan canvas. Entry to each tent is through a screened door that zips closed to form a totally insect proof barrier. The verandah is furnished with two directors chairs and a small round drinks table. The “bedroom” marquee is fitted with large double beds flanked by twin bedside tables and a writing desk. The adjoining “bush bathroom” area includes a shower, twin basins, and a large bush bathtub and flush toilet. Hanging swathes of cotton and canvas walls provide complete privacy. The Mess deck and indoor fireplace leave one with the impression of having found a home away from home! Enjoying an expansive view of the Mara river and the Oloololo escarpment, the deck area plays host to a great deal of wining and dining. Activities include morning and afternoon games drive and game walks. Wilderness walks escorted by an armed guide provide an opportunity for one to appreciate the ‘Little Five’ and notice all the unique savannah flora and fauna at close quarters. Transfer Malindi Airport to Hemingway’s
Hemingway’s is a 74 room resort Hotel overlooking the stunning beach of Watamu Marine Park, 20 miles south of Malindi and 60 miles north of Mombasa. The ambience of the hotel is of relaxed sophistication, with the friendliness of a privately owned hotel coupled with the facilities and standards of an International resort. The beach was voted by the London Sunday Times as being one of the top 10 beaches in the world, there being just 4 hotels on as many miles of coast and guarded by the finest of tropical barrier reefs. Three miles down the coast from Hemingway’s is Mida, a tidal lagoon of mangrove creeks teeming with exotic bird-life and the venue for sundowner cruises on an Arabic dhow. The Kenyan coast is renowned for its fishing. The resort offers half or full day fishing trips. In season you can reel in Sailfish, Marlin and feisty Tuna. There is also the option to go dolphin watching, snorkeling over the coral reefs and diving. When not out to sea, there is plenty to do at the coast; you could try your hand at wind-surfing, take a trip to the snake park or the Gede Ruins which is the remains of a 13th century Swahili settlement that was inexplicably abandoned in the 17th century. With its two swimming pools and great cocktail bars, you could rather spend the day simply relaxing by the pool with a good book and cool drink at hand. The hotel also has a gymnasium and tennis and squash courts located on the resort’s property. Optional excursions include a trip to the Arabuko-Sokoke forest, which is one of the last remaining stands of virgin coastal rain-forest. It contains a number of rare and unique species, including the Sokoke Scops owl. Ancient elephant tracks criss-cross the forest, whilst on the forest floor you might glimpse a Golden-rumped elephant shrew and higher up brilliantly-coloured butterflies teem in the clearings. Hemingway’s is a truly unique and exceptional destination for your tropical vacation.
