Sefofane shared charter flight Jao Camp – Jack’s Camp
Jack’s Camp is located deep in the Kalahari Desert on the edge of the Makgadikgadi Pans, the largest saltpans in the world. A relic of one of the world's largest super-lakes, the Makgadikgadi dried up thousands of years ago as a result of the continued shifting of the earth's crust. When the lake was formed, some five to seven million years ago, its shores were the setting for the mysterious transition from ape to man. Jack's Camp is a classic desert safari camp accommodating 20 guests. Ten green roomy stylish and canvas tents, with en-suite bathrooms and indoor and outdoor showers (for those who want to feel the Kalahari breeze on their skin) have been fashioned in classical style and are set into a palm grove creating an oasis of civilization in what can be the harshest of stark environments. Persian rugs underfoot and cool cotton sheets form a striking contrast with the rugged wilderness viewed from the comfort of one's own veranda. Facilities include a mess tent for dining and a tea tent with Persian carpet cushions for socializing. Innovative and fresh, your meals are of a superb standard with all baking done daily on coals. Jack's Camp offers a comprehensive Kalahari desert experience as well as the opportunity to walk with the Bushmen trackers who provide a unique connection between their fascinating culture and the natural environment. In the wet season, the pans fill with water forming one of the most important wetland sites in Africa which in turn attracts huge flocks of Flamingo as well as the annual zebra and wildebeest migration, the desert is teeming with game and predators. Activities are conducted in open 4x4 vehicles custom designed for this terrain and accompanied by knowledgeable guides. Venturing far into the centre of the Makgadikgadi, on 4-wheel-drive quad bikes, one is able to explore remote archaeological sites, periodically discovering never-before-documented fossil beds of extinct giant zebra and hippo. A safari to Jack's Camp is also a complete desert experience, focusing on species unique to the area such as aardvark, gemsbok and springbok. It is the only place where guests are virtually guaranteed to see the rare and elusive brown hyena and are able to walk through the Kalahari with a gang of habituated, yet wild meerkats (suricates)!
